Cerveza Cristal - Cuba - 4/5/2014

The low down:
Cuba. Home of Fidel Castro, cigars, and missile crisis's. Now that we've discussed all that I know about Cuba, let's talk about the beer.

Tropical countries have a tendency of making beers that are really easy to drink and this one is no different, with its relatively low alcohol, very light bitterness and almost unnoticeable malt flavour. It's not fruity and it's not sour, nor is it bitter or well balanced, but, it's still relatively tasty.

Cuba claims that Universal Healthcare is their greatest triumph, I disagree. I think the greatest Cuban triumph is Gloria Estefan, and like Gloria Estefan, this beer is neither good nor bad. You could say it cuts both ways.

Packaging: 6/10
Given that Cuba is a Marxist Leninist republic I expected more red.
Refreshment: 7/10
Typical Caribbean water replacement. Session-able
Flavour 6/10
Tastes like beer, but good beer.
Alcohol Content: 5/10
4.9%. Macro standard.
Price: 4/10
$8.00. Keep in mind that's almost a third of the average Cubans monthly salary.
Total: 28/50

This is a serviceable beer for rapid consumption in hot weather. In Cuba the population lives on socialist government designed food rations, but that probably won't work here. Drink this with excessive capitalist over-consumption.
Cheers.
